They guide treatment and help doctors understand what may be happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I have learned not to let a number become the entire story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A lab value cannot measure the quality of a conversation with Sue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A scan cannot measure hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A prognosis cannot tell me what tomorrow morning will feel like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medical information deserves our full attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But so does the life happening around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want to understand the numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I just do not want to become one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cancer introduces you to a world of numbers.
