Eight years after HOLEP surgery fixed my enlarged prostate or BPH, I was diagnosed with Gleason 9, Grade Group 5, Stage 4 prostate cancer. I thought I was done. I wasn't. HOLEP worked extremely well for what it was designed to do — but fixing BPH didn't eliminate my risk for prostate cancer. And I didn't fully understand what PSA meant AFTER HOLEP, when a normal-looking number can still be creeping.
